Introduction to the History of Political Ideologies
The syllabus provides a general framework that provides insight into historical and contemporary political thinking in the broad sense of the word. It is not intended to be a history of ideas, but to examine how ideologies directed or are directed by behavior. The general aim of this course is to gain insight into the role and function of ideologies in space and time. The syllabus and the class meeting should not be seen as a body of knowledge that needs to be learned by heart only. You will have “to get to work with the subject matter”, i.e. by engaging with the syllabus text and the classes, you must strive to ‘understand’ the subject matter. The course aims therefore to develop a critical sense among students.
